These are ideas for the costumes and do not have to be followed exactly!!! you do not need to buy or rent anything!!

Please begin building your costume with the items listed below. We encourage you to repurpose clothes you already have or shop at thrift stores minimize cost. If you are purchasing items, please do not remove tags or throw away receipts until we make sure that your items will work. Think creatively, and have fun creating your characters!!! All students must wear their black or tan Jazz shoes / gym slippers

Many students are multiple parts please try to keep the changes minimal by adding or taking off from the main costume. Costumes are required to be worn to class for a dress run on the first weekend back after the holidays.

Hintonburg Juniors –  As per the main costume lists for the servants, Neleus, and named characters.

Hintonburg Broadway Babies – Servants – white shirts and black pants, skirts or dresses with aprons if possible

Kanata Juniors and Broadway Babies – Jane, Michael, Bert and Mary Poppins please follow as close to the main list as possible, other roles as per clerks and park goes requirements in the above list

Glebe Juniors -Mary and kids as close as possible to the above character list, all other please follow the chimney sweeps costume list from main list

Remember, modern-day clothes need to be altered and embellished to create a period costume! Along with color, use pattern and texture to create visual interest in your costume. Use pictures online to give you ideas, and then look for different fabrics and materials (at fabric, craft, and thrift stores) that will work for your costume.

Please note: For dress rehearsals and performances, cast members must have natural-looking hair color and ONLY jewelry (including piercings) that is period- appropriate.  Adult female roles – buns. Child female roles, 2 bunches or 2 braids.  Adult Males roles or Boys –  long  hair tied back

There are two versions to this play – 

Traditional fairy tale version-  costumes as below, no black or dark colours keep it bright and rich even Witch. silver, gold, white, pink etc. Chorus – wear all brown and green head to toe

Dark Grimms fairy tale version- costumes are to all be dark and muted except Cinderella, Rapunzel and Enchantress transformation costume, red, purple, dark green navy all great colours –  Chorus  – wear all black head to toe.

BAKER:
  1. Peasant costume, full off white shirt, pants, hose, vest, apron, cap – Adds “hunting jacket” and scarf
BAKER’S WIFE:
  1. long full skirt, blouse, or period dress, jacket with fur trim if possible, pregnancy padding pillow – white apron and head scarf
CINDERELLA’S STEPMOTHER:
  1. flamboyant court dress, gloves, headpiece
FLORINDA & LUCINDA (STEP SISTERS)
  1. ball gown, gloves and headpiece
JACK’S MOTHER:
  1. Peasant costume, distressed lace bodice over blouse, long skirt, apron, shawl
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
  1. Deep red skirt and bodice or dress, apron, pigtails and bows – Adds cape made of “wolf skin”
WITCH:
  1. Hooded ragged cloak – Transformation dress – magical vision of beauty and youth worn under dress – Beautiful Sorceress dress
CINDERELLA’S FATHER:
  1. Pompous outfit: Richly coloured swallowtails, striped breeches, fancy neckwear – Adds cloak and top hat
CINDERELLA’S MOTHER
  1. White nightdress- style burial gown (she is seen only in spirit form)
WOLF:
  1. Fur hood with ears, fur gloves, tail coat, boot spats – Mob cap and nightgown to match grandmother’s

RAPUNZEL:

  1. Long, Medieval/Renaissance gown – Long wig

RAPUNZEL’S PRINCE:

  1. Green velvet uniform coat, breeches, medals, sash at waist, small cape, boot tops – (after wandering blind through the desert), needs bandage for eyes

GRANDMOTHER:

  1. Night gown and mob cap ( shower cap works great) – Simple printed country dress, shawl, bonnet

CINDERELLA’S PRINCE:

  1. Blue tail uniform, gloves – Adds hat for wedding

STEWARD / MYSTERIOUS:

  1. Double breasted pigeon coat, pants tricorn hat – Long cloak and gloves
